Whalley Youth Helping Youth Speak Up and Have Their Voices Heard

The Surrey Leadership Youth Council is a group for youth to get meaningfully involved in Social and Community Planning in Surrey. It is a partnership between City of Surrey’s Planning & Development Department and Parks, Recreation & Culture.

What we do:

We meet every second Monday from around 4:00-6:00 at the North Surrey Recreation Centre (10275 - 135 Street) –which is right at the Surrey Central Skytrain Station and bus loop.  Free food and bus tickets at every meeting!

  • Every year we organize Youth Speak Up! A forum for youth to talk about how to make the community more youth friendly.
  • We help run the youth lounge at the North Surrey Rec Centre.
  • We present to City Hall what youth are saying is important to the community.
  • We organize open mic nights and other workshops at Tom Binnie Youth Centre.

If you Join SLYC! you’ll:

  • Get volunteer experience
  •  Learn useful skills
  • Be able to put it on your resume (it looks really good)
  • Get lots of pizza, bus passes, hoodies, free rec passes and other stuff
  • Do fun stuff like camping, trips and other events
  • Make a difference
